Clay Target Shooting |
Further information |
Clay pigeon or clay target shooting comes in a number of different forms. Over-and-under shotguns are usually used for all clay shooting, with specialist models available for each discipline. Targets are thrown automatically from a "trap".
Broadly speaking clay shooting can be divided into three categories: Trap - clay targets are presented from in front of the shooter and projected up and away from the shooter. Varieties of trap shooting include Down The Line (DTL), Double Rise, Automatic Ball Trap (ABT), Double Trap and Olympic Trap. Skeet - skeet shooting presents targets from two trap houses - a high tower on the left and a low tower on the right. Targets are sometimes singles, or two are presented at one. Competitors move around in semi-circle meaning targets may be coming towards you, going away, or crossing. Varieties of skeey include National Skeet and Olympic Skeet. Sporting - sporting targets are designed to simulate a variety wild game shooting, with targets presented from all manner of directions, heights and speeds. Whilst trap and skeet have quite uniform layouts, a sporting layout can be as adventurous as the land (and safety) available to shoot can be. Varieties of sporting clays include National Sporting, Compak (or compact sporting) and FITASC. At Strathyre, we are usually shoot DTL and Double Rise. Sometimes we also do compact sporting and a variation of ABT. |
